It's an exciting time for Diane von Furstenberg; tonight sees the launch of her new TV show on E!, House of DVF. And she currently has two new books; The Woman I Wanted To Be - an inspirational memoir, and Journey Of A Dress - a look back at 20 years of the iconic DVF wrap dress.
We had a little chat with Diane about House of DVF, a show which sees her mentor hard-working young women ready to take their careers to the next level at DVF. With that in mind, we wanted to know what Diane looks for in a new employee.
Hi Diane, we're excited to have you back on our TV screens! What made you return to TV?
House of DVF is going to be a lot of fun! It is a great opportunity to reach a new generation of women and I manage to get some good messages in there, too!
What can we expect from the new show?
You can expect to learn a little bit about what it is like behind the curtain at DVF and in the fashion world...and you will meet these wonderful girls who are all just starting their lives and learning what it takes to work in fashion.
Do people still ask you about The City, and the relationship between Olivia Palermo & Whitney Port?
OK. What skills do you think you need to be a successful entrepreneur?
Confidence - that is very important.
In your opinion, what kind of boss do you think you are?
Tough but kind...
If someone wants to work at DVF HQ, what are the personality traits do you need?
I like to hire people who have a point of view and an opinion; a particularly interesting way of looking at things. Kindness is also important, and confidence is key.
Is there a question that you ask every new employee?
I like to have personal conversations with the people I hire, so I do not usually end up asking the same questions.
Interview outfit: what's super important?
I think the bag and the shoes are very important and the first thing you notice, they should be structured and polished, like our sleek and keep the rest simple...wear something that you feel like your best self in and that allows you to shine.
The DVF story is fashion's favourite fairytale - who would you like to play you in the movie of your life?
Is there a British star who you love, style wise?
Emma Watson has great style, and Rachel Weisz.
You once said that you thought you'd retire at 30, what made you continue?
That was before I knew how lost I felt without my work. That was before I had taken time off and moved to Paris where it just felt like I couldn't express myself and I missed it all, so I launched my company again. But that is how life is, landscapes change, people come in and out, you change yourself.
Who is the most famous person in your phone book?
