With each new year comes an influx of people joining gyms, committing to marathons and finding a new lease of life through exercise - good on them! Usually, I'm the type of person to jump on the trend (at least until mid-Feb), but this year, I honestly just have not had the motivation or the drive - that is, until I saw that drunk yoga exists.
Yoga's supposed to be relaxing, give you all the positive vibes you could ever need, AND train your body, right? Combine it with the ultimate chillax-er (wine) and, my friends, we're on to a winner.
It seems that Drunk Yoga sessions originated in New York, but just like all things involving alcohol, they've piqued the interest of those in foggy London town.
The session starts off with a 45-minute warm-up, also known as happy hour. Then, there's a 45-minute session of beginner-level vinyasa sequence.
Now for all you nay-sayers out there who might think it's dangerous to start balancing on one leg after you're a little worse for wear, fear not - all the moves are entry level and it's more about stretching and flexibility than it is about a killer praying mantis with a mouth full of merlot - plus, you're only a little bit buzzed, you're not exactly trollied.
Eli Walker, founder of the sessions, , "Drunk Yoga, which involves adding wine to a beginner yoga sequence in class that takes place in a bar, was just another idea I had to make yoga more accessible and less intimidating to a certain population who might not otherwise try yoga at all."
