Festival season has officially begun, and though many of us will be experiencing major Coachella FOMO this weekend, there's no better time to get a headstart on planning our festival looks to ensure we're the best-dressed gig-goers come summertime.
Thanks to global fashion search platform, Lyst, who have just released their festival fashion report identifying some of the major trends that people have been searching for this season, we can keep a few, stylish, steps ahead of the game. So, what's trending around the world right now?
It's perhaps no surprise that cycling shorts are having a big fashion moment right now, thanks to celeb fans like Kylie Jenner pairing them with vintage sweatshirts on the regular. Currently, the styles to get your hands on right now include neon biker shorts, rainbow biker shorts, and romper biker shorts (that's a lycra all-in-one, to you and me).
Elsewhere, sequin bikini tops are trending with 40% more page views on Lyst since the beginning of March, which we can totally see becoming the must-have item for festival season with the Palm Springs crew.
There's plenty of daring accessories accounted for in Lyst's report too, including searches for futuristic, sport-inspired sunglasses, which increased by 650% following Kim Kardashian's sunglasses collaboration with Carolina Lemke, while 90s nostalgia shows no sign of going anywhere soon, with harness chest bags rising by 257% since March.
There's good news for festival-goers who don't want to sacrifice comfort or practicality in their quest for a fashion-forward look too, as oversized "ugly" sandals are the most wanted festival shoes right now, with searches for “rubber sandals” increasing by 34%.
The Lyst report also threw us one major curveball that's expected to reign supreme on the festival circuit this year: janties.
Yep, the *extremely* high-cut denim briefs that starred in experimental French fashion brand Y/Project's spring 2019 runway show are big news this season, racking up a 2250% increase in page views since Mid-March.
If Lyst's predictions are anything to go by, denim underwear could be all over Coachella this weekend, either in the form of Y/Project's £235 pair, or customised jeans hacked high above the thigh.
Love them or loathe them, only time will tell if the crotch-hugging janties will prove a hit, but the trend has certainly provoked some strong reactions on social media.[ id="1113407013692874752"]
