Jodie Comer’s BAFTA speech basically confirmed her as the Queen of British TV

Just when we couldn’t loveJodie Comer any more, she added more fuel to our obsessive fire with the stand-out speech at the BAFTA TV Awards 2019.

Taking to the stage to accept her much-deserved award for Leading Actress for her role of Villanelle in BBC’s Killing Eve, Jodie - to quote the queen herself - turned the waterworks on. Hands up if you too had to deal with your own waterworks watching Jodie? ME!

After gathering her thoughts, whilst clearly in shock, Jodie went on to praise the queen of British comedy, Killing Eve series one’s writer, Phoebe Waller-Bridge saying, “Pheeb, I feel so lucky to not only say that I have worked with you but to call you a friend. You are the most talented person I know. Thank you for being such an inspiration.”

Jodie then turned her praise towards Line of Duty’s Stephen Graham, “I want to thank this moment to thank Stephen Graham. Stephen, if I didn’t owe you a pint before, I definitely do now!”

Really tapping at our heartstrings - and our mascara, the 25-year-old concluded by saying, “Biggest thank you to mum, dad and gorgeous brother Charlie for the support you always show me. Last but not least, I would love to dedicate this award to my nana Frances who sadly passed away the first week of filming, so she never got to see Villanelle. But she was the life and soul of everything and when she was here, she’d say to me, ‘you get it off me you know’, and I just want to stand up here tonight and say nana Frances, you were absolutely right all along. Thank you so much Bafta.”

Catching up with Jodie at the BAFTA dinner afterwards, we couldn’t wait to share our excitement with the woman of the BAFTA 2019 awards – watch our hilarious reaction video below. Whilst Jodie previously told GLAMOUR UK “Oh my god! I am not a very sassy person, you know,” wearing a one-shoulder Stella McCartney number, she was certainly serving up the sass last night.

Elsewhere at the only event where you can bump into Tony from Hollyoaks in the bathroom and then hit the dance floor alongside Bodyguard’s Keeley Hawes and Doctor Who herself, Jodie Whittaker, the great and the good of TV couldn’t resist letting their hair down.

We also managed to catch up with our favourite interior expert since Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, Bobby Berk of Queer Eye fame who shared a much-needed piece of empowerment. “Be yourself because no one can be yourself better than you,” Bobby shared. Isn’t that the motivational message we all needed on a Monday?

Before our Audi e-tron took us from the after party to our much-needed beds, there was just enough time to meet Audi’s ambassador, Jamie Redknapp. Plot spoiler: he’s even fitter in real life. What a time to be alive!
