If you were completely hooked on ITV's breakout drama Liar back in 2017, we come bearing good news, because the network have confirmed that the second season of the psychological thriller Liar will return to our screens in the autumn.
The hit show first aired in 2017, and follows the story of schoolteacher Laura (played by Joanne Froggatt) who is drugged and date-raped by Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd), the father of one of her pupils.
Andrew promptly denies the allegations, leaving Laura on a quest for justice as she endeavours to prove her version of events.
The series ended on a major cliffhanger, as Andrew was outed as a serial rapist and discovered with his throat slit in the marshes, leaving a string of suspects in the frame for his murder.
Here's everything you need to know about the new season.
What's it about?
Speaking about the plot to TV Times, the show's writers, Jack and Harry Williams, confirmed that the two main characters are back for season 2.
"Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd are back. We’re delighted that anyone frustrated by the cliffhanger will be rewarded for their patience. Questions are answered and the title is central."
"It’s a different lie. Who’s lying about what? The audience will be figuring that out," Harry added.
Previously, Ioan Gruffudd told TV Times that he was "excited" about the second season. "I’ve sat with the writers and I don’t envy them having to work it out but they told me it is very exciting.
"Now Andrew is dead, goodness knows where they are going but they are geniuses," he continued. "I was thrilled they thought I could play that part."
Who's in the cast?
As soon as the first series wrapped, ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, confirmed that a follow-up was in the works.
“Liar has gripped the nation over the last six weeks and we’re delighted both Joanne and Ioan will return to play Laura and Andrew. Jack and Harry Williams are incredible storytellers and part two of Liar will have the audience equally gripped, as we find out who killed Andrew Earlham.”
While we definitely know that the two main stars will be returning, there's no word yet as to the other returning characters. There's plenty of potential suspects though, all of whom have a motive to kill the serial rapist.
Could it be DI Harmon's wife Jennifer? Andrew's son, Luke? Perhaps it was Laura's sister, Katy, or maybe even her ex-boyfriend, Tom? Or was it Laura herself? We'll have to wait to see how the plot unfolds.
When will it air?

"The delay was that our brilliant writers, Jack and Harry, were very busy and needed a little bit more time to write the scripts," she told Graham Norton.
"But the scripts are written, I’ve read them all, we’ve done a little pre-shoot and we start filming the day after I finish the play."
