If there's one surefire way to make sure your latest collection includes a sell-out item and your fashion show sings on social media, chuck in a pop culture reference. In the past we've been treated to Vetements' Justin Bieber hoodie and My Little Pony, Barbie and even McDonalds references by Moschino, the undisputed leaders in this. Well now, Louis Vuitton has stepped up to the hype machine, putting one of the most highly anticipated shows of the year on their tees...
For his spring summer 2018 show in Paris, Nicolas Ghesquiere sent tees with his own mocked-up Stranger Things poster on them. Stranger Things Season 2 has been (what feels like) a long time coming since the sci-fi became the hit of 2016 after its first season dropped on Netflix. But it's officially Stranger Things month, with the new series landing on Netflix on 31 October (Halloween, no less).
Speaking to Vogue backstage after the show, Ghesquière expalined, “I met the kids last season, and we had a very good time. And so we spoke and we thought it was very funny, maybe, to do a little citation of the series that is coming out soon in the show. It’s always great to have a little accident like that in the styling, like if the girl has kept her T-shirt from backstage in a way, and so Stranger Things... I think it was one of the most wanted clothes backstage by the girls."
Back in September last year, Stranger Things cast members Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo and Milly Bobby Brown visited the LV headquarters, no doubt to discuss their feature in his upcoming summer 2018 collection. Perfect timing to get fans exctited for Season 2.
It's sure to be the cult item of the season, when it hits stores next spring (*hopefully* in the lead-up to a third season).
We know it's going straight to the top of our wish lists.
