Pineapple is the most delicious buzzword in skincare right now. We've had lotions, serums and moisturisers made from the juices and pulp of grape, strawberry and banana before, but now it's all about pineapple extract.
Earlier this month, K beauty brand Glow Recipe released its , which comes in a frankly adorable pineapple shape bottle. Marc Jacobs, Too Faced, Herbivore and Alba Botanica have all launched products with pineapple extract in them, too. It's as integral to new skincare as a pina colada is to a day by the pool.
Pineapple - or Ananas comosus, a member of the Bromeliacea family - is known for its glow-enhancing properties and its gentle exfoliation capabilities. It is rich in Vitamins C and E, which are known to banish dull, fatigued and lacklustre skin. It should even out your skin colour, prompt a little glow and smooth the skin. It also has powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which we all know are extremely important to incorporate in our skincare routines (as well as in our bellies).
All of this means that using products with pineapple extract may be ideal for people who deal with stubborn spots. Anyone with dark spots, pigmentation or acne should be stocking up on lush pineapple-based products.
Pineapple-infused beauty products do come with a little warning, for anyone-prone to dry or flaky skin. It's an exfoliant and it tends to be quite drying, so go easy if your skin is thirsty or sensitive. If you have dehydrated skin but you're still desperate to slather it with your favourite fruit, experts suggest combining a pineapple product with some trusty hyaluronic serum.
These pineapple products have the added benefit of smelling like a holiday in a bottle.
