Ultimatte Lipstick, £9.99,
Zara has long been our go-to spot for on-trend fashion with stunning staple pieces for every season. And now, for the first time, the high street fashion house has branched into the world of makeup with the launch of matte lipsticks, along side a lip kit and lipgloss.
With other high street giants like Topshop and H&M also offering a wide range of lip products, not to mention skin makeup, eyeshadows, mascaras and even skincare, it's fair to say that Zara faces some stiff competition. But if their fashion offerings are anything to go by, the new lip launches will prove fast favourites.

Although not an everyday wearer, I am partial to a pop of red lippy for an evening occasion or to dress up a drab outfit. But it has to be matte - for some reason, balmy formulas end up all over my face within five minutes of applying. Luckily, Zara's Ultimatte Lipsticks are just that - matte.
The packaging is the first thing to grab my attention - different to any other brands I've seen but in an understated way. Rather than jump on the rose gold bandwagon, Zara have chosen a chic, matte navy for all their lipsticks. It's sophisticated without being boring black, and the matte feel makes it feel expensive to hold.
The next thing to strike me is the array of shades. From a bright lilac, to an off-black plum, to a phone-box red, there's a shade to suit all.
I opt for shade 15, a warm cherry red and it immediately delivers a rich pigment. The bullet is not the most precise (the formula is quite soft) and I have to tidy up my lip line a little to get a sharp finish, but that may be more due to the fact that I'm not the best at applying lipstick.
Two hours later and lasting power is proving very impressive - it stays put through my morning coffee and my mid-morning snack without smudging and without drying my lips out whatsoever. This one's coming home with me!
