Chris Martin is an English singer/songwriter, who is the lead singer, pianist and rhythm guitarist in indie band Coldplay. He was born in Exeter, Devon, to an accountant father and a music teacher mother. He is the eldest of five children. He formed his first band, The Rocking Honkies, with Nick Repton and Iwan Gronow at prep school. The band were badly booed during their debut show. Little did Martin and his hecklers know that, some years later, after meeting Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman at University College London, he would form the band Coldplay in 1998. By the time their debut album, Parachutes, was released in 2000, the band had already achieved international success. The band released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, in 2011, by which time Martin had married a movie star - Gwyneth Paltrow - and had two children, Apple and Moses. Martin has also written songs for a number of solo artists, including Jamelia and The Streets, and has collaborated on tracks with Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Nelly Furtado. He made cameo appearances in two movies, Bruno and Sean Of The Dead. Chris Martin is tee-total and does not drink or smoke.
